The Kinston/Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Department will be offering free trolley rides from Festival On The Neuse to the Neuseway Nature Park and Planetarium. The trolley will run from 10am - 3pm every half hour. Admission is free to visit the Nature Center and the Planetarium. The Nature Center is home to many native and exotic animals including various species of reptiles, mammals and birds. The Planetarium & Science Museum features the Lenoir Memorial Hospital Health Museum which includes a human heart that patrons may walk through and many other hands-on exhibits. The Planetarium will also have special shows every hour on the hour. Big Daddy's Express, which is our newest addition to the park, will be offering discounted train rides. The Partnership for Children and the Community Council for the Arts are hosting the 2nd Annual Kid's Fest on the Neuse! Kid's Fest is an exciting opportunity for children and families to learn more about the community and have fun at the same time. Children and families can take part in arts and crafts projects such as face painting, mother's day projects, jewelry making and mural painting. There will be a Moonwalk and other inflatable rides set up for all children to enjoy. Community agencies that provide services to children and families, such as Lenoir County Parents as Teachers, Child Development Services Administration and Kinston Community Health Center will be on hand to provide information on their services to attendees. Experience Naval life as it was during the War Between the States at the CSS Neuse II. |
Historical re-enactors will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate different tools that were used during that time period. Registration is $15. You may enter one contest or all four. Register in Advance or from 9:00 to 9:45 AM before the show. The parade will begin around 10 AM and the show shortly thereafter. You must be registered in the show to parade your dog(s). If you have any questions, call Rande Moolenaar at 522-2814.
Even if you don't have a dog, you can still have fun at the 7th Annual Arc Bark Parade & Amateur Dog Show and The Festival on the Neuse. Support your community!

BREAK A BOARD for RADD!
King Tiger Tae Kwon Do
King Tiger Tae Kwon Do will be hosting a break-a-thon event to benefit our local entity for raising awareness for developmentally disabled. You can either break a board yourself or watch professional martial artists and children break boards and cement blocks. This is an action packed event that you don't want to miss. Come check us out from 11 to 12. All proceeds will be given to RADD, Inc to help developmentally disabled children and adults.

Barbecue will be plated and served by Southwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce. These fine rescue folks will prepare the hushpuppies and slaw and serve some of the BEST Barbecue in Eastern North Carolina. A portion of the proceeds from each plate supports the Southwood Volunteer Fire Department and will go toward purchasing life-saving equipment.

The Neuse River Foundation will offer the Great Rubber Duck Race once again on Saturday, April 26, 2008. Ducks will be available individually or in packs and will swim down the Neuse River at 3:30 that afternoon. The winners will be plucked from the water and the winning numbers announced immediately. Winners need not be present to win.

The Community Council for the Arts is privileged to be invited by the North Carolina Arts Council to be one of four participating venues for a week long community residency. The much acclaimed Chuck Davis African American Dance Ensemble will present two school performances daily and five 2hr evening workshops.
